My name is Sarah Buckland, and I have been practicing as a psychologist for over 10 years and
working in educational, dual diagnosis and disability services for over 25 years.
As a Registered Psychologist, I follow the ethical guidelines of the New Zealand Psychologists Board.
Services include:
Specialists/Areas of Interest:
Services for Adults/Adolescents:
Using frameworks such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, I help you to develop goals, and identify ways to move forward with these goals. This could include areas around motivation, grief, anxiety or depression.
In addition, I use a trauma-informed approach and can support people who are working through grief relating to their injuries.
Assessment may include developing a clear picture of what has led you to wanting to have support from a psychologist, and working alongside each other to get the results you want.
We will discuss the timeframes needed for the intervention, and if necessary, liaise with other professionals or important people in your life.
When my services end, we may also discuss further goals to maintain any progress made and develop strategies that would support this.
Service for parents/whànau and children/young people:
Using underlying principles of behaviour and learning theory, my role is to assess and develop intervention plans to work with behaviours that need to change in order for your child to successfully learn new skills. This process will involve interviewing key people to identify what is happening in the environment, direct observations, and after which we will discuss goals for your family/child and develop a function-based intervention plan. The intervention plan may include changes to the environment, changes to the way you may respond to both appropriate and challenging behaviours your child may present with. An intervention plan will also include reviewing goals and progress.
We will work together to set a goal for your child’s intervention. When your child/young person achieves their goal, we will discuss a plan to maintain progress and when my input will end.
Together, we will work to achieve the best possible results. If I believe that my services are not productive, or you could benefit more from another professional or service, I will discuss termination and provide referral information for other providers.
